Mary Fish's Stampin' Pretty Guest Stamper! -- Out of My Comfort Zone

It's August in Arizona, so it's hot, hot, hot! We have these huge monsoon rain/dust/wind storms that provide much needed rain. It's also the time that those of us still in Arizona tend not to be outside a lot. 

So, it's one of the times when I can spend more time with my stamps, ink and paper. 

When I agreed to be the Stampin' Pretty Guest Stamper for the week, I knew I needed to do something outside MY comfort zone. I'm a pretty "clean and simple" gal, so flowers and punches and blendabilities are definitely things I don't do a lot. 

I had fun trying out the Blendabilities on an image stamped with our Classic Ink.  I did hold my breath for the first petal to see if it would smudge, but as you see, it worked like a charm. 

This is an all purpose card I made just to have on hand.  I know it will be sent to a "forever home" soon.

Does the color combination sound familiar? Originally, I planned to use our great Flowerpot Designer Series Paper and set up the colors from that. But, I chickened out -- that will be my next challenge to conquer.

Stampin' Pretty's Featured Stamper featuring National Hospice Regatta Alliance

There's nothing better to re-invigorate posting to my blog than having the chance to be featured on Mary Fish's Stampin' Pretty blog.  As a PAL, I enjoy the virtual community of PALS nationally and especially my Arizona PALS that I get to see periodically. 

Today's post is very close to my heart. For the last three months I've spent lots of time preparing to run the 2014 Hospice Regattas National Championship at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club (SPYC) in St. Petersburg, Florida. This Championship brings together sailors from many our of 28 member charity regattas to race for 3 days, enjoy each other's company, and re-commit to our goal of supporting hospice care.  In 2013, the National Hospice Regatta Alliance (NHRA) raised almost $1.5 million that went directly to hospice care.  Check out the Championship and our organization at our Facebook page here and follow the excitement at the April 10-13 Championship. 

My card is actually 50+ cards that I will use to thank the many, many people who have helped to make our Championship special over the past three years. I want to personally thank all of the volunteers at SPYC, our member NHRA regattas and the Board of Directors of NHRA who have given so freely of their time to benefit a wonderful cause. 

So, by necessity, it is a simple card. To help me along, I combined MDS and traditional techniques to create the card.  I know that as I assemble them, they will continue to "morph" and change to meet my whims.

PALS September Blog Hop - What's My Favorite Tool?

We were each asked to feature our favorite tool. What kind of request is that!  How can I pick a favorite tool fram all the amazing items I have in my craft space? 

OK, I had to make a choice in order to play along on the this month's HOP. So, if I were stranded on a desert island, I would definitely want to have my BIG SHOT & DIES with me. Where would I be without them? They transform bits of paper into great accents and help tell our stamping story. 

Since I typically make cards, I wanted to try something different and more three-dimensional for today's Hop. 

NOTE:  This project is definitely a "work in progress."  I had some medical issues pop up that laid me low, so I did not finish.  I will post finished project over the weekend.  Thanks for your understanding. 

Checkers!  Don't you remember learning how to play? It was a game that fascinated me.  I have two special "little guys" that I adore -- one is 6 and one is 1.  Ryan, the older brother, is smart as a whip.  

So my project is a custom checkerboard for Ryan, his little brother Ethan, and his dad. To make it extra special, the checkers are the boys' initials and done in Ryan's favorite colors.  The checkerboard is sturdy (mounted on cardboard from Designer Series Paper, and folds up to a compact 6" by 12" size. 

A regulation checkerboard (and chessboard) is 16" by 16" but that is too big for the boys.  I scaled it down to 75% of original size and it ended up as a convenient 12" by 12".  Regulations checkers are 1 1/4" in diameter and to make sure little hands could manipulate the checkers, I kept them that large. I mounted each Letter on a 1 3/8" circle for ease of handling. Checkers are stored in clear embellishment boxes.

Featured Stamper on "Stampin' Pretty" - Floral to Funky

 

I am honored to be the featured stamper today on Mary Fish's Stampin' Pretty blog. As a Take Out Paper Artist and a Stampin' Pretty Pal, it's always fun to share my creations.  

I challenged myself to take a stamp set and framelit set that hadn't been getting a lot of use and transform it into something I loved.  I'm not a "floral" kind of gal except for photographing wild flowers in bloom. Clean and simple as well as funky are my stamping style. 

Could I take a very floral and intricate combination and make it pop?  I'm very happy with the end result. 

Daydream Medallions (clear-126467) and Floral Frames (127012) were languishing away and gathering dust.  It was time to give these gals photo time on my blog!

I added in my new "favorite" stamp set, Yippee Skippee (wood-131341) because the sentiment is perfect for a friend of mine.  She's a multi-tasking professional and mom who is very chic and retro at the same time. 

Pair it with paper that really wakes you up, and the transformation is complete.

Monsoon Madness in Arizona - Digi Challenge

Arizonans eagerly await the summer monsoon because we haven't seen rain since February and everything is looking a littled parched.  The monsoon started a bit late this year, July 22, but it was a BIG ONE! 

There were rushing streams in the desert in areas that are marked as 100 year flood plain. Here are some photos from our porch. The water was about 50 yards away!

Happy Anniversary to the Guy who is my STAR! - Digi Challenge 22

Shhhhhh!!! Don't tell my husband, but here is my anniversary card for him. It's a bit early -- our anniversary is not until July 10, but when this week's challenge of utilizing STARS was posted, I knew this was the perfect idea for the card. 

We were at Lowell Observatory, in Flagstaff, Arizona, in June to view the BIG MOON and Saturn through their very powerful telescopes.  

Did you know that Pluto was discovered at the Lowell Observatory?  Most folks at the event believe that Pluto still should be considered a planet.  What do you think?

The photos are a ceiling fixture in one of the buildings of Saturn and its rings.  It was done in the early 1900's and is beautiful. The other beautiful object is my husband, Jay, who is on the floor at one of the observatories taking a picture of the telescope!

I am President of a local professional women's organization.  We are very lucky to have members of a smaller chapter than is dicsontinuing operations join us.  Here is my personal welcome note the the members coming over to our chapter.

"Tag" Your Graduate - Digi Challenge 19 - Ribbon

 

Graduation time is in full swing in Arizona and we are fortunate to know lots of young folks graduating from high school. 

This digital tag will be modified to have the school colors for each of the graduates.  It's a simple, colorful, and "handmade" way to make the graduates feel extra special. 

This tag came together quickly by using My Digital Studio (MDS).  The contents are:

Stamp - From the Certified Stamp set - "Certified - Certified"

Text - Edwardian Script and Arial 

Ribbons - Grosgrain Ribbon - Black, Crushed Curry, recolored Cherry Cobler

Like Rip Van Winkle, awake after a long absence - DigiChallenge 18

After a very long absence, Take Out Paper Arts returns to the blogging scene. 

My re-entry was inspired by the wonderful DigiChallenges hosted by the Stampin' Pretty Pals. 

Here are my entries for the current contest.  

Three fine young adults that I know and care about a lot are graduating high school this month. Needless to say, they are counting the days. So, I made them each a Graduation Countdown Calendar to help the days pass more quickly.  

Staying within the DigiChallenge theme, I slightly modified each one. They hang around together, so each of the Calendars will be carefully compared. 

CONGRATULATIONS Tiernan, Jasmine and Raoul!  You did it!
